What This Tool Checks
Most sellers only ever see their listing photo full-size in the upload screen — never at the small size a buyer actually scrolls past in search results. A product that looks perfect full-size can lose all its detail, or get its subject cropped out entirely, once it's shrunk down. This tool shows you both problems before a buyer does.
| Preview | What it simulates |
|---|---|
| Square crop | How your photo looks if center-cropped to a square — the safest, most common thumbnail treatment |
| Landscape crop | How your photo looks if cropped to a wider rectangle — checks whether your subject survives a horizontal crop |
| Small scroll size | Roughly how large your photo appears while a buyer is quickly scrolling search results |
Etsy's Resolution Requirements — What's Consistently True
Sources on Etsy's exact thumbnail crop ratio disagree — some describe 4:3, others 1:1 on mobile, others 4:5 — likely because Etsy displays your photo differently across desktop search, mobile search, and the listing page itself, and third-party guides don't always specify which context they mean. Rather than assert one number, this tool shows you both a square and a landscape crop, since a photo that survives both is safe regardless of which ratio applies in a given view. What's consistently corroborated across sources, though, is the minimum resolution:
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum (shortest side) | 2000 pixels |
| Recommended | 3000×3000 pixels for the sharpest zoom |
| Safest aspect ratio | Square (1:1) — survives the widest range of possible crops |
