Quick answer

Etsy fees on a US digital download are a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. On a $9.99 printable that is about $1.40, leaving roughly $8.59. Offsite Ads add 15% (12% for shops over $10,000 a year), capped at $100 per order, but only on sales they bring in.

Etsy fees in 2026, line by line

Every Etsy sale carries up to four fees. The calculator above applies them in this order; here is what each one is and when it applies.

Fee Rate (US shop) Charged on On a $9.99 download
Listing fee $0.20 Each listing, every 4 months or each sale $0.20
Transaction fee 6.5% Item price + shipping + gift wrap $0.65
Payment processing 3% + $0.25 Order total, incl. tax $0.55
Offsite Ads (only if triggered) 15% or 12%, max $100 Orders from an offsite ad click $1.50 or $1.20
Total without Offsite Ads $1.40 → you keep $8.59

Processing differs by country: 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 in much of the EU, 3% + $0.25 in Canada and Australia in local currency. If you sell in a currency other than your payout currency, add a 2.5% conversion fee. UK and some EU shops also pay a small regulatory operating fee — a fraction of a percent of each sale.

Insight: The two fixed fees ($0.20 listing + $0.25 processing) are the ones that decide which prices are viable. Below about $4.75, they eat more than the 9.5% of percentage fees combined. Pricing a printable at $4.99 instead of $2.99 raises your take-home from $2.26 to $4.07 — almost double — because the fixed fees stay put.

Etsy fees by country

The transaction fee is 6.5% everywhere; payment processing is what changes. On a 10-unit sale in the shop's own currency:

Shop country Transaction (6.5%) Payment processing Total before listing fee
United States $0.65 3% + $0.25 = $0.55 $1.20
United Kingdom £0.65 4% + £0.20 = £0.60 £1.25
Germany / much of EU €0.65 4% + €0.30 = €0.70 €1.35
Canada C$0.65 3% + C$0.25 = C$0.55 C$1.20
Australia A$0.65 3% + A$0.25 = A$0.55 A$1.20

Add the $0.20 listing fee, which Etsy charges in US dollars and converts. UK and some EU shops also pay a regulatory operating fee of a fraction of a percent, and sales in a currency other than your payout currency carry a 2.5% conversion fee — pricing in your payout currency avoids it.

What you keep at common price points

US shop, digital download, no shipping, listing renewal included:

Price Etsy fees You keep Fees as % of price With Offsite Ads (15%)
$2.99 $0.73 $2.26 25% $1.81
$4.99 $0.92 $4.07 19% $3.32
$9.99 $1.40 $8.59 14% $7.09
$14.99 $1.87 $13.12 13% $10.87
$24.99 $2.82 $22.17 11% $18.42

The pattern is the point: fees fall from about a quarter of a $3 sale to about a tenth of a $25 sale. Bundling five $3 printables into one $14.99 listing keeps $13.12 instead of five times $2.26 ($11.30) — and makes one sale instead of needing five.

Offsite Ads: the fee most sellers forget

Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Bing. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on that order:

The fee applies only to attributed orders, so on most sales you pay nothing extra. Run the calculator once with "Not an Offsite Ads sale" and once with your tier to see both outcomes. To judge whether Etsy's on-site ads are worth it as well, use the Etsy offsite ads calculator and read are Etsy ads worth it.

How to use the calculator to set a price

  1. Enter the price you are considering and your country.
  2. Read "you keep". That is your gross margin on a digital product, since there is no cost of goods.
  3. Try the next price up — $7.99 → $9.99 → $12.99 — and watch how much of each extra dollar you keep (about 90 cents).
  4. Set monthly sales volume to see the month's total; this is the number to compare against any subscription tools you pay for.
  5. Switch Offsite Ads on to see your worst case.

For the reasoning behind the price itself — anchoring, bundles and what similar listings charge — see the Etsy pricing strategy guide. To compare what the same product nets on Etsy, Amazon KDP and Gumroad, use the digital product pricing calculator.

How Etsy's fees have changed

Etsy's transaction fee has risen twice in recent years: from 3.5% to 5% in July 2018, and from 5% to 6.5% in April 2022. The $0.20 listing fee has not changed in that time, and Offsite Ads moved from optional to compulsory for shops above $10,000 in yearly sales when the programme launched in 2020.

The practical lesson is that fees drift upward, not down. A price that clears your margin by 20 cents today may not in two years. Build in room — price so that fees are under about 15% of the sale — and re-run this calculator whenever Etsy announces a change. Etsy usually gives sellers several weeks' notice by email and in the Seller Handbook.

Common Etsy fee mistakes

Forgetting the renewal fee on digital items. Every sale re-lists the item for $0.20. On a $3 printable selling 100 times a month, that is $20 a month most sellers never budgeted for.

Comparing with the item price, not the order total. The transaction fee includes shipping; for physical sellers, cheap shipping plus a higher item price changes nothing — Etsy charges 6.5% of the total either way.

Opting out of Offsite Ads too early. The 15% fee only hits sales you would not otherwise have had. For many small shops those sales are profitable even after the fee. Check your Offsite Ads stats before opting out.

Pricing at $1.99. After fees you keep about $1.35. Unless the item is a deliberate loss-leader for a bundle, it is not worth the listing.

Etsy Fee Calculator: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Etsy take from a $10 sale?

About $1.40 on a US digital download with no shipping: $0.65 transaction fee (6.5%), $0.55 payment processing (3% + $0.25) and the $0.20 listing fee. You keep roughly $8.60 — or $7.10 if the sale came through an Offsite Ad at 15%.

Does Etsy charge the transaction fee on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% applies to the whole order total, including shipping and gift wrap, but not US sales tax. Digital downloads have no shipping, which is one reason their fee share is lower than physical products at the same price.

Can I avoid Offsite Ads fees?

Only if your shop has made under $10,000 in the past 12 months — then you can opt out in Shop Manager. Once a shop crosses $10,000 it is enrolled permanently at the lower 12% rate. The fee applies only to orders Etsy attributes to an offsite ad click within 30 days.

Why is Etsy's fee higher on cheap listings?

The fixed parts — $0.20 listing and $0.25 processing — do not shrink with price. On a $2 printable they are 22.5% of the sale before the percentage fees; on a $20 bundle they are 2.25%. That is why $1–$3 single printables rarely make sense on Etsy.

Etsy fees vs Gumroad or Payhip — which is cheaper?

On fees alone, a standalone store usually beats Etsy — Payhip's free plan, for example, charges 5% plus card processing — but it brings no buyers. Etsy's fee pays for search traffic. Compare platforms side by side in where to sell digital products.

Is the listing fee charged again when a digital item sells?

Every time. A digital listing auto-renews for $0.20 each time it sells, so every sale carries a fresh listing fee. A listing that never sells renews every four months, also for $0.20.
