Part of: Etsy AI Tools: What Works for Sellers in 2026 · Etsy digital product maker
You can sell AI art on Etsy. Etsy's Creativity Standards class seller-prompted AI creations as "designed by a seller", and sellers must disclose in the listing description that the item was created with AI. AI prompt bundles are not allowed, and AI art must not copy other people's characters, brands or artwork.
Etsy's Creativity Standards describe the seller's role in every item: made by, designed by, handpicked or sourced by a seller. AI creations sit in one place:
| Question | Etsy's position |
|---|---|
| Category | "Designed by a seller" — seller-prompted AI creations |
| Definition | Creations generated using AI tools based on a seller's original prompts |
| Disclosure | Required in the listing description if an item is created with AI |
| Prompt bundles | Do not qualify; not allowed as "designed by" items |
| Listing photos | Follow the listing image requirements for "designed by" items |
| Enforcement | Etsy may remove listings that do not follow its policies |

Put a short, honest sentence in the description of every AI-assisted listing — not only in your shop's About section:
"This artwork was designed by me using my own prompts and AI image tools, then edited and prepared for printing by hand."
Do not describe AI-generated items as hand-painted, hand-drawn or handmade. If you painted over or edited the image substantially, say what you did — buyers value the honesty, and it describes your real contribution.
Insight: On Etsy, AI is not the risk — sameness is. Thousands of sellers can generate a "boho botanical print" in seconds, so a plain AI image competes with everyone. What sells is what AI cannot add for you: a coherent set, a specific room or buyer, correct print sizes and careful editing.

Yes. Etsy's Creativity Standards list "seller-prompted AI creations" — items generated with AI tools from a seller's original prompts — under "designed by a seller". They can be sold if the listing discloses the AI use and follows Etsy's other policies.
In the listing description, every time. Etsy requires sellers to disclose within the description if an item is created with AI. A plain sentence works: "Designed by me using my own prompts and AI image tools, then edited and prepared for printing."
No. Etsy's Creativity Standards say AI prompt bundles do not qualify as designed by a seller. Sell finished artwork or products, not the prompts used to make them.
Usually not for a purely AI image: in the US, images generated entirely by AI generally cannot be registered for copyright, so others may be able to copy a purely AI-made design. Your own edits, composition and arrangement strengthen your claim. This is not legal advice.
Etsy reserves the right to remove listings that break its policies — most often for missing disclosure, misleading "handmade" claims, or another party's intellectual property. Disclosed, original AI designs are allowed.
